Community Bonspiel
2020

2020 Community

What better way to celebrate the community of Fergus than by having a community bonspiel at the oldest continousely running curling club in Ontario the Fergus Curling Club. This part of the year is usually dull but not here. With bonspiels nearly every weekend the brainchild of Greg Moulton to have a bonspiel to involve people and clubs from the cummunity is now in full swing. Now in it's second year there were teams representing, Township of Centre Wellington, RLB LLP, RBC, Diane Cook Travel, Fergus Legion, Grove Memorial Hospital and volunteers, Lions Club, BLR Drafting and Design, Centre Wellington Fire and Rescue, Red Brick Realty, Gordon's Dairy Farm, Optimist Club, and FCC Board of Directors.

The winners from Gordon's Dairy Farm are L to R: lead Dawna Laitar, skip Chris Laitar, vice-skip Scott Gordon and second Katrina Gordon. Bonnie Talbot and Greg Moulton were the conveners on the sides.

2019 Community: Toast

A new bonspiel has been created by Fergus Curling Club member Greg Moulton. As the oldest continuous curling club in Ontario it hasn't had a completely new bonspiel for a number of years. The inaugural spiel this year was held on Jan. 19 at the club. Moulton said "If this Community Bonspeil was a success we will try and have it as an annual spiel" It was a tremendous success so it will become and annual one. The idea of the spiel is to bring individuals and businesses in the community together for a fun time. Individuals signed up as well as many businesses with a team of 4 people. It is tradition at the Scottish Club to have pipers from the Fergus Pipe Band pipe the curlers on to the ice for their first game and then there is a toast to the pipers and to the curlers to have a good game. Toasting this year was L to R: piper Peter Hummel, event chair Greg Moulton, Councillor Bob Foster who brought greetings from the township, Tom Mulvey who was asked from the curlers to participate in the toast, Club President Avon Giddings, and piper Mark Cripps.

2019 Community: Winners

The winners of the day receiving the Community Bonspiel trophy put up by the club was the RBC team L to R:  Tracey Jones playing skip, Craig Skochinski playing vice-skip, Jim Anderson playing second and Gerrilynne Jones-Anderson all of which worked at one time at the RBC in Fergus.

About The Club

The Fergus Curling Club was established in 1834 and has operated every year since making it the oldest continuously operating curling club in Ontario.

We are a four sheet club of 260 members. There is a club room, bar, kitchen, and locker rooms. Much of the work around the club is voluntary with the exception of ice-making and caretaking.

The club is managed by a nine person board of directors elected annually from the general membership.
